Belgium under attack again as suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in Brussels central station

A suicide bomber has been shot dead by soldiers at the central station in Brussels after triggering an explosion while Screaming ‘Allahu Akbar’ meaning God is Great in Arabic.

 

 

On the sport report initially described the attacker  as being ‘tanned, well-built and in his 30s’ – was wearing an explosive vest or rucksack, while witnesses later claimed he tried to blow up a trolley or a suitcase which he might have been carrying with him.

No one else was injured in the explosion before he was neutralised by the soldiers, his lifeless body was on the floor for a while as medics and emergency services could not approach the body because of the suicide vest he was wearing.

A bomb squad performed a controlled explosion of a bomb belt the suspect had on at the Central Station and evacuated the city’s famed Grand Place square 650 feet away while checking to see if there more hazards.

Brussels Prosecutors confirm that the man has died and the case is been treated as terrorist attack.

March 2016, Belgium was attacked and 32 were killed that day to which ISIS claimed responsibilities for, Belgium has been on high alert since then.

 

An eye witness Nicolas Van Herrewegen, a railway staff said he had gone down to the station Mezzanine level when he heard someone shouting. “Then he cried ‘Allahu Akbar’ and he blew up a wheeled suitcase”, He told AFP news agency

He said “i was behind a wall when it exploded, i went down and alerted my colleagues to evacuate everyone from the station. He (suspect) was still around but after that we didn’t see him”

 

“It wasn’t a big explosion but the impact was pretty big” he said. “people were running away”

He also said he saw some wires sticking out from what the attacker was carrying which he think would have been a suicide vest

 

Lawyer Remy Bonnaffe took a photograph of the flame just after it exploded, Remy was at the station waiting for a train before at the time, He told Routers news agency He was happy that no one was injured in the explosion as people close to it appeared unhurt and no obvious damage to the walls, he added, basically it was a failed attempt.

 

Europe has been under serious Islamic terrorist attack for a while now, Belgium based ISIS cell were responsible for the killing of 130 people in Paris in 2015 and there has been repeated terror attacks in France since.

There has been attacks in London and Manchester as well over the last 2 months. London is on high alert now with the latest development where a van was driven into some worshippers outside a mosque.

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel hailed the ‘courage’ of security forces and said he would chair National Security Council at the Law Street at 9am on Wednesday morning.

He thanked the military and staff of the NMBS who were present during the terrorist act. ‘They responded very professionally and courageously to this situation,’ he said.
