The Episcopal Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry who preached love at the royal wedding of Price Harry and Meghan Markle in Britain has spoken in Washington D.C., on Thursday at a vigil demonstrating against President Trump’s “America First” polices.
Although the Bishop said the gathering “is not a protest, it is a procession.” The will of message of love is in motion from the look of things. He preached love to 1.9 billion people worldwide at the royal wedding and to the royal family, and at this time of high racial tension in America what is needed is basically ‘LOVE’
“Love Republican neighbour, love your Democrat neighbour, love your black neighbour, love your white neighbour,” he told attendees at the “Reclaiming Jesus” event at the National City Church in Washington, D.C.
He further said the group was not partisan and belong to no political wings but to Jesus. “We are not a partisan group. We are not a left wing group. We are not a right wing group. We are a Jesus group,” he continued.
“We came together liberal, conservative and whatever is in the middle,” he said.
The vigil is part of a declaration penned by progressive Christian leaders known as “Reclaiming Jesus.” It declares that the church is “part of an international community whose interests always surpass national boundaries.”
“Therefore we reject ‘America first’ as a theological heresy for followers of Christ,” it reads. “While we share a patriotic love for our country, we reject xenophobic or ethnic nationalism that places one nation over others as a political goal. We reject domination rather than stewardship of the earth’s resources, toward genuine global development that brings human flourishing for all of God’s children.”
Thursday’s vigil began at the National City Church, and move towards Lafayette Square Park in front of the White House.
Despite the declaration’s aim of speaking out against the “America First” policies, Curry stressed that the event’s focus was following the teachings of Jesus Christ.
He called the vigil “a Pentecostal moment.”
The Episcopalian leader has become media sensation since the powerful love message at the royal wedding in Windsor where quoted a message from civil rights icon Rev. Martin Luther King Jr about love.
“The late Dr. Martin Luther King once said, and I quote, ‘We must discover the power of love, the power, the redemptive power of love. And when we do that, we will make of this whole world a new world. But love, love is the only way,'” Curry said. He said we were all here because two people are in love.
He put a humour into it by saying these “two young people fall in love and we all showed up”. He also called the Prince and Meghan ‘my Brother and Sister’, something UN-British and uncommon phrase when addressing the royal.
Some section of the American media said his message about freedom, love and slave trade makes the royal family uncomfortable but i don’t agree with that, i thought it went perfectly well with them.
“There’s power in love. Don’t underestimate it. Don’t even over-sentimentalise it. There is power, power in love.” he said.
He has since been interviewed by various media outlets and has appeared on Good Morning America, ABC News and Today News shows.
